FallBCK is an open source application-level backup solution built on Proxmox Backup Server. PBS is fantastic, but currently there are still a few options lacking compared to a full-service backup solution - and we have a way to extend it to do just that. FallBCK backs up your databases, kubernetes clusters, Linux/Windows machines, Docker hosts, PVE hosts and much more!
And of course, there's no vendor lock-in. Even if you decide to uninstall FallBCK tomorrow, all your backups remain easily restorable from the PBS web UI - just as it should be.
Scheduled logical exports for portable restores, plus continuous log capture for point-in-time recovery.
Cluster state and the data behind it, captured together so a namespace comes back whole.
Everything needed to bring a host's containers back: the data they write and the configuration that defines them.
File-level backups for servers and workstations, with one agent per platform.
Back up the Proxmox VE hosts themselves to PBS. Guests keep their own PBS backups; FallBCK covers the configuration that the hosts run on.
FallBCK is under active development, so keep your eyes peeled for new features and updates.. see below for a few examples of what we have in our pipeline. Missing something? Send us a message or open a pull request!
You don't need FallBCK to restore. Most backups are plain files, such as database dumps, that you import with the database's own tools. Nothing needs specialized tooling apart from PBS and proxmox-backup-client.
If FallBCK is gone, your backups are still usable.
FallBCK reads each source the way it expects to be read: database dumps and log streams, Kubernetes API and volume snapshots, Docker volumes, file walks, PVE host configuration.
Data goes to your Proxmox Backup Server datastore. Deduplication, encryption, retention, verification and sync keep working as they already do.
Pull files from the PBS web UI or proxmox-backup-client and use them directly: import a dump, apply manifests, copy a volume back. FallBCK isn't needed.
Add a datastore or namespace, connect your first source and schedule a job. Your existing PBS setup stays as it is.
